Founding
K Troop, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, hosted by Bob Hersey
was founded on May 31, 1999 - Memorial Day by Bob Hersey as Bob Hersey's K
Troop. Its name was changed to K Troop, 11th
ACR Vietnam, hosted by Bob
Hersey on May 30, 2001. It is entirely owned by Bob Hersey and is not
affiliated with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, the U.S. Army or the Department of

Founder
Bob Hersey is the founder of K Troop, hosted by Bob Hersey.
Bob is a Vietnam veteran who served two voluntary tours of duty in Vietnam.
His first tour began on Easter Sunday, April 14, 1968 and concluded the following
April. He served as First Cook with K Troop, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment.
Bob's second tour began in June of 1969 and concluded in November of 1969 at which time he
was honorably discharged from the Army. His second tour of duty was with the 528th
Quartermaster Company under the command of the 1st Logistical Command. He is a

Fourfold Purpose
K Troop, hosted by Bob Hersey was founded with four purposes
in mind. First, it began as a rallying point for all members of K Troop who served
with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment while the regiment was in Vietnam from 1966 until
1972. Secondly, it was founded as an educational forum to teach the Vietnam War
experience to those who remember it and those who are too young to remember.
Thirdly, K Troop, hosted by Bob Hersey was founded as a means to
promote membership in the 11th Armored Cavalry's Veterans of Vietnam and
Cambodia and the Blackhorse Association.
Finally, having taken over 500 photos while in Vietnam, Bob Hersey founded K
Troop, hosted by Bob Hersey as a means to showcase his photo collection.
Rallying Point
K Troop, hosted by Bob Hersey is the rallying point for all
members who served in K Troop during the war in Vietnam. The Guest Book, with over five hundred entries, serves as a
message board for K Troopers and friends of K Troop to post messages. Bob Hersey
actively assists persons who are looking to find old friends. Contributor's Corner is that corner of K Troop,
hosted by Bob Hersey that encourages participation of K Troop members and
others who wish to share their Vietnam experience through their photos and remembrances.
Education
K Troop, hosted by Bob Hersey has become a rich source of
knowledge for those who are seeking to learn about the war in Vietnam and America's
participation in it, particularly the contribution made by K Troop, 11th Armored Cavalry
Regiment. K Troop, hosted by Bob Hersey has been
recommended by both the History Channel and Military.com as a distinguished military web site.
Scholars have used K Troop, hosted by Bob Hersey as a
rich source of information for preparing research papers, lectures and the like.
Inquiries are often received from teachers preparing lesson plans. K
Troop, hosted by Bob Hersey strives to educate the public, in the most
accurate and sound manner, to the role the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment in general and K
Troop in particular played in the war in Vietnam.
Promotion
One purpose of K Troop, hosted by Bob Hersey is to promote
membership in the 11th Armored Cavalry's Veterans of
Vietnam and Cambodia (11th ACVVC). This association, open to anyone who served
with the 11th ACR or its attached units in Vietnam, was founded in 1984. Bob Hersey
is a lifetime, charter member having joined in the first year. Its founder is Ollie
Pickral of Richardson, Texas. The work of the 11th ACVVC
is to foster a camaraderie of spirit among those who served with the regiment in Vietnam.
It also serves as a locator service helping to find lost buddies. Annual
reunions are held each summer throughout the country.
In addition, K Troop, hosted by Bob Hersey seeks to promote
membership in the Blackhorse Association
of which Bob Hersey is a member.
K Troop, hosted by Bob Hersey is not affiliated with the 11th
ACVVC, www.11thcavnam.com or The Blackhorse Association but recommends these
associations and, to those who are qualified, membership in them.
Showcase
While in Vietnam and serving with K Troop, Bob Hersey took over 500 photographs.
About three hundred of them are showcased in the Photo Gallery at K
Troop, hosted by Bob Hersey . These photos chronicle Bob's Vietnam
experience and the lives of the men who served in K Troop. They are an invaluable
source of knowledge. The photos have been known to jar memories and visitors to the
photo gallery have been able to identify themselves and others in the pictures.
