90 degrees - sunny

Dear Mom & Dad,

Greetings once again from Vietnam.  Well, today is Sunday and things are very quiet.  Everyone has gone to church.  We have been here at Long Binh for eight days now with about two days left.  It looks as if we will be going North instead of going back to Blackhorse.  Instead of going to Loc Ninh we are going only about half way.  On your map you might find a small town called An Loc on Route 13 due North of Saigon.  Somewhere around there is where we are going.  From all indications it looks as if we will be there for about 90 days.

As of yet, I have not received your package with the slide viewer and range finder in it.  When did you mail it and how?  If it was sent air mail it should only take about 8 to 10 days at the most.  I am afraid that it is lost.  Was it insured?   Send me a list of everything in it in case I have to go to the post office.   If it should come, I will write you immediately.

By now you should have the jacket that I sent to you.  You will notice that on the word "because" the "b" is missing.  See if a tailor somewhere can't put a "b" on it.  If there is anything that you would like me to send you from here there are many souvenirs that I can send.  Such things as dolls and night gowns and pajamas etc.  Anything you want I will see if I can get it.  I will have to wait until I get back to Blackhorse.  There are no post offices in the field.

Right now I am pretty squared away.  Eventually I will need more film as I have been taking quite a lot of pictures.  I have enough tee shirts for a while.   Everything here has been going good for me.  I am not working too hard.   We are cooking two meals a day and every fourth day I have off.  Tomorrow, is my day off.  We have four cooks here now with three cooks working at one time.   We have one cook back at Blackhorse.  This works out very nicely.  We can count on sleeping in on our day off.  This afternoon I have to make hot rolls and we are having  Bar-B-Qed hamburgers tonight.

Here at Long Binh, I have been going to the movies every night and then over to the 21 club for a few drinks.  It's great now to be able to go in the club and get some good stuff.  I never was too crazy for beer.  They say that they have started selling mixed drinks at the EM club at Blackhorse for the guys 21 and over.  So when we get back to Blackhorse I will be able to get some good stuff there as well.

I'm looking forward to seeing those pictures of the backyard and where the new bridge is going.  There will be a lot of changes when I get home,  now that I am getting short - ha, ha!  I am thinking more and more about coming home.  I am thinking that I would like to go to Florida and visit Cliff when I get home on my 30 day leave.  What I am thinking about (if you would like) is to go to Florida next year is flying from California to Tampa and stay there for about 10 days and then come home.

It would be nice if you could be there, however if you wouldn't care to go, I would fly from Tampa to Boston.  Oh well, that's quite a bit in the future.  This is what I would like to do but things might change between now and then.  It would depend greatly on where my next duty station will be.  I asked for assignment in the 1st Army Zone which is Northern New York state and New England.  So I don't know if I will get it or not.  The chances are pretty good that I will get it.  Most likely it will be somewhere in the states as I don't thank that the Army will give an enlisted man more than two overseas assignments.  Oh well, I will just have to wait and see.

Well, it's now about 11:30 and I will have to start on my hot rolls soon.  So, I will write again soon.  Keep well.

By for now!

Love,
Bob
