Bruce Meigs served in K Troop, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment from 1969 until 1970.  He lives in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. He has submitted the following photos of his time with the troop.

In a letter sent to me on February, 17, 2026 Bruce writes,

Good evening Bob –

Yes, you certainly may publish the photos I sent you.

The RVN548 photo actually shows my TC Ralph (forgot his last name but do remember his recurring bouts with malaria) pointing his .45 as a joke at a previously made bullet hole in the 548’s windshield.

The RVN 1969 .50 cal photo is me cleaning this huge weapon over a 55-gallon drum that has a partial opening on the top to collect all the jungle crap that’s flushed out of it. I used to get a kick out of seeing some of manufacturer’s corporate names stamped on the weapon (AC Spark Plug Division; Frigidaire….etc…etc.

The fellow troopers in the RVN 1969! photo from left to right are Davis; me; my fellow 63C20 mechanic Joe Barnes; Ingram, Kaminski, and “Speedy” Gonzales (no “political correctness” necessary back then…everyone lovingly exchanged mock ethnic slurs in solid camaraderie, and we all drank from the same canteen both physically and mentally.

It would usually seem that my most traumatic experience would have been hitting a mine while riding the wood line along QL 13, but over the years that experience gradually faded away. What will never fade away is my memory of watching Gary Reed being loaded onto the Huey for his final ride home….that took a piece of me away that will never grow back. A couple of weeks earlier we were all sitting in his hooch laughing and getting shit faced under the enormous California Bear Republic flag that he proudly had hanging over his cot. He never had the chance to pig out on some great American chow, buy an overpowered muscle car, or find comfort in the arms of an understanding lover

That all being said, I’m glad that when our Desert Storm troops came home, they received a much warmer welcome than we did, I had a fellow Vietnam vet call me during that time and tearfully ask why we didn’t get the same welcome….I told him that we should just appreciate the fact that our nation finally recognized that

regardless of political stripe, our military is to be honored and not distained.

In closing, thank you for your service Bob and for spearheading the Blackhorse site.

Bruce
