I was a SP4 with K troop 69/70 on K10/K15 11B10. I still don't know how I got put on a M551 for about half my tour. It seems, we got them and the troop needed bodies. That was OJT for sure, never seen one until I got in Country. Great Site!

Allons Bob! I should get my finished story to you by next week. I think a K-Troop reunion sounds great and would make it there.

Bob, you have done an outstanding job with this site. It definitely shows that you put your heart into it and that you sincerely care for the TROOPERS of K Troop and the 11th ACR. I do hope that you guys (K Trp) have a reunion and all of you get to sit together, in the same room and not have bootlickers dictate that you must pay to attend and dictate where you will sit and what room you will stay in. I feel that reunions should be done by Troop, that way you get to sit and talk with the folks that you served directly with. As you can see, I do not care for Bootlickers, what ever they touch they want to control and be in the Limelight. Your site shows that you care. Keep up the good work and I wish you and yours the very best. Sincerely, Ramon B. Vega PSG 2nd Plt A Troop 70/71

What a great website. Thanks to all responsible. I was with L Troop 3/11. I got hit in Nov 68 in Cambodia after six months in country and two on RR in Hong Kong (that damn TET thing). Anyway, I was dusted off and never went back to the boonies. So, I'm glad we all made it and think constantly about those that didn't.

Bob, your page brings back memories. I was attached to the 11th Cav Aug. 66 to Aug 67 as part of the Air Force Forward Air Control Team. We deployed from Ft. Meade, Maryland with the 11th. I deployed with the Second Squadron. Bill Faro with the 3rd and Wayne Lineberger with the 1st.. I sailed from Oakland Army terminal on the Upshur with a stop-over at Subic Bay then we made a landing craft landing at Vung Tau. We then flew to Bien Hoa and trucked out to Long Binh. We were there for the building of the base camp and helped to build four hootches on the heliopad near the runway. It's not marked on the map. Oversight? I deployed with Regimental Headquarters during Cedar Falls and Junction City. Last weekend I spoke to Bill and Wayne for the first time in 35 years and it seemed liked the time never past. Anybody out there remember us? I know someone did because our names appeared on the convoy ambush web page.

Hi Bob. Check out a namesake cav sqdn in the Irish Army Researve in which I served many years ago. Their original barrack address was Blackhorse Avenue, Dublin!! Uncanny.

Looking for anyone in A company, 227th. Air Cav. who may have known my brother, Gary L. Holz. He was a door gunner. His chopper went down on a compound in Phan Thiet on Oct. 5th, 1967. He died Oct. 8th, 1967 in route to burn center in Japan. I'm trying to resolve the feelings in my heart.

Thank you, Ron Holz 4th.INF. Cu-Chi, Vietnam 66/67.

I was a platoon sergeant with K Trp from last of Apr 68 until Sep 68 when I was promoted to lSG and sent to I trp. Had a great time at the reunion in Nashville and met a lot of troopers. Gave Bob Hersey a disk of photos of K & I Troop during 68 and 69. God bless all of you. Was a great pleasure to have served with you. Hope to see all again soon.

I was wondering if I could find anyone who served in Vietnam with my father. His name is Frank Liatys. I know he belonged to the 27th Engineer Battalion (COMBAT). I'm not sure when he served but it was in the late 60's. If anyone could help me, drop me an Email. Respectfully

Just discovered your web site, and really enjoyed your picture gallery. I was with M-Co. 3rd platoon leader and served Aug 67-Aug 68. I did a number of joint operations with K-Troop, particularly during and after the Tet Offensive. You have done a wonderful job with this web site.

Allons Bob. I will not be at the reunion this year. I am getting my story finished of the May 21, 1967 ambush for you. I was at the Batavia, NY VA center for PTSD this past April and while there I met of all people. Phillip Watt was the sarge in charge of the K-troop motor pool. He had and sent me a photo of my ACAV-K13. I don't know if he has any other photos from that ambush but I will contact him and find out. I Will try to make a trip up to visit you in person so we could chat. Never been up that way. Enjoy the reunion.

While doing research, I came across the cemetery where Gerald Carr is buried. He was KIA with K Troop during 1969. The Quincy Cemetery is located in Ripley, New York. You can find more information by doing a Google search for: quincy cemetery gerald carr. I hope this helps add to your records. Sincerely,

John Effinger, L Troop (1967-68)

Was searching Google for info concerning 'orderly room' and came across this excellent site. Retired AF photographer. I spent 2 tours in Vietnam (66 to 68) as photographer assigned to the Army in III Corps. It was the best duty I ever had and would have stayed longer if the AF would have let me. After the first year I took a 30 day leave back to the states and upon return the first trip out I got nicked in a outpost firefight. My CO let me stay in a field hospital instead of evac to the states and 4 weeks later I was back at the same outpost with my writer gathering stories. The only thing bad about the duty was those chopper trips, over 300 and each one scared me more than anything else.
