Dear Mom & Dad,

(Editor's note:  inside the envelope of this letter my mother put the receipts for the items that I requested.  A roll of film was $1.68.  A shirt was $5 and pants were $10.  The total of all the requested items was $42.53.)

Greetings once again from Vietnam.  As usual, things are going well here however, I need the following items desperately.  So as soon as you get this letter, please send me these items:

            1.  $300
            2.  One flash attachment for my camera with batteries
            3.  Color slide film - Kodachrome II and Ektachrome X - five rolls each.
            4.  two sets of civilian clothes.  Two pair of pants, size 38/29 and two short                    sleeve shirts - nice colors.

I guess by now you have probably figured out that I am going on R&R.  I am going to Bangkok, Thailand the 18th to the 23rd of October so I would appreciate it if you would act as soon as possible.  There is not much time.  The reason I need a new flash attachment is because I broke mine beyond repair.  Perhaps you know what type it is Dad?  I need one that makes instant contact.  Preferably, "Gold Crest" like the one I bought at J.M. Fields.

Of course, the $300 is to cover expenses while in Bangkok and the clothes are of course also for my R&R.  I will need plenty of film while I am there.  I have taken plenty of pictures these last few days.  This morning I got in from the field after spending five days out there.  Tomorrow, we move from Bien Hoa.  Our stay here has finally terminated.  Tomorrow we go to . . . . get a load of this - Tan Son Nhut Air Base.  Perhaps you have heard of this place?  I don't know how long we will be there but it should be nice.

Well, it's late and I want to go to bed.  Things are going well here and I'm looking forward to my upcoming R&R.  So please send the items I asked for as soon as you can.  Well, thanks and . . .

By for now!

Love,
Bob
