Dennis Michael Kelly of Baltimore, MD passed away on March 8, 2015.
Beloved husband of Christine E. Kelly (nee Koniecki); devoted father of Amanda
David and her husband Jason, Jessica Atkins and her husband Chris, and Kate
Kelly; loving grandfather of Luke, Nathan, Josh, and Chase; dear brother of
Patricia Keegan and her husband Art, Gerald Kelly and his wife Marguerite,
Anne Buniak and her husband Jack, Eileen Carter and her late husband Robert,
Kathleen Brandon and her husband Budd, and Michael Kelly and his wife
Patricia; cherished brother-in-law of Mary Rhodes and Janie Kelly. Also
survived by many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his siblings
Bernard G. Kelly, Jr., Joan Kelly, and Timothy Kelly.
He served proudly in the Vietnam War with K Troop, 3rd Squadron, 11th Armored
Cavalry Regiment (Blackhorse) in 1966-67. He was a Life Member of the 11th
ACVVC.
He was was a member of the Omega Club. Dennis was one of the strongest
advocates the broker and forwarder industry has ever known and was a constant
presence within the industry, both locally and nationally. He represented the
brokers and forwarders in many aspects. Dennis was a regular participant at
the Private Sector Port Committee (now Baltimore Port Alliance) meetings, a
Past President of the Baltimore Customs Brokers & Forwarders Assn. (BCBFA)
as well as chairing many committees. Dennis was the original BCBFA
representative at the inception of the Federal Agency Quality Work Group in
1996. With his knowledge and experience Dennis naturally represented the BCBFA
with the National Customs Brokers & Forwarders Assn. of American (NCBFAA)
attending meetings in Washington, D.C. and locations throughout the country.
Dennis was an icon in the industry and will truly be missed by the many
friends and colleagues who have had the pleasure to know and work with him.
Relatives and friends gathered at Schimunek Funeral Home, 9705 Belair Road,
Nottingham, on Wednesday March 11th, from 3-5 and 7-9 pm.
