I was on the same personnel carrier that day May 21, 1967. Anthony took charge
of the M-60 machine gun as we were heading back into the ambush site to help
our guys trapped in the shooting, wounded and fighting for their lives. Roybal
laid down a barrage of fire and lead until he was struck by enemy fire. I can
say that Roybal did not suffer from his wounds, he was killed instantly by a
enemy wayward bullet. I caught Roybal in my arms as we both fell to the
floor of the personnel carrier. ANTHONY WILFRED ROYBAL was a very brave
man and it was my honor to have known him.
