"A Compassionate Hero"

Relationship: Comrade in arms
Remembrance:
I had moved up from 3d Plt Ldr to Sqdn S-2. When possible we responded to any hostilities
in our Hqs vicinity. Sgt Garrett's men had trapped some VC in the tunnels. We went
to offer what assistance we could. While he was trying, through an interpreter,to coax the
enemy to surrender, the VC surfaced in another hole and tossed a grenade. We arrived
shortly thereafter. Sgt Garrett was the type leader the Army needs for a model.
